How to Have a Signature Look

by | Jul 6, 2021

Every woman wants to be memorable, but not all do it the right way. Memorability doesn’t come from your remarks and habits as much as your presence, appearance and the unspoken.

Having a signature look is all about the unspoken; like the eye contact in between words. In order to build your signature look, you must start with the simple things. These are the things you already do/own, but their practicality now becomes an authentic extenuation of yourself.

In this article we go over the best foundations for a signature look and how to find your own memorable authenticity.

  1. Scent

You use shampoo, sure, and lotion too. You may even have a perfume or body spray lying around for special occasions. But ask yourself, are these really you?

With the amount of scents out there, it’s easy to end up overwhelmed with all of the options. It takes a lot less effort to go to your local drugstore and buy something practical.

Even so, I encourage you explore different lotions and perfumes. Put away the Victoria’s Secret and indulge in a high quality fragrance, one that you love the smell of and that makes you feel like you. Lucky scent has a great selection of samples for you to try.

Try to find a scent that is good for everyday wear; you don’t always want to smell like you should be at a club. Remember, we want to find a scent that is your signature.

This beautiful scent you’ve chosen will always be associated with you. Scent is very powerful. It creates feelings and memories.

2. Purse

Everyone uses bags! It’s worthwhile to find one that is high quality and can fit all of your goodies. Your purse should be able to fit your wallet, a laptop (if you have one), a small hairbrush, pens/pencils, makeup, phone, sunglasses (another signature item), a self defense item, etc. All of the items you don’t want to be without if something unexpected happens!

Find a timeless color that compliments your outfits and makes you feel good.

When I say high quality, I do not mean Louis Vitton or Gucci. You can find beautiful high quality bags without spending $1000 or more. I found my signature purse secondhand on Poshmark and it suits my needs and aesthetic standards perfectly.

There isn’t one right way to have a signature look, it’s all about what feels good to you!

3. Jewelry/Accessories

Jewelry can make the most boring outfit interesting. When the clothes you wear are casual or inexpensive, accessories pull your look together and change the entire vibe.

Adorning yourself with beautiful jewelry and accessories spices up your look and gives more visual stimuli to those who see you. It shows femininity and self care.

Think about your undertones and body type. Would silver suit you better than gold? Chunky or delicate? Purple gems or orange gems? Find a bracelet, necklace or ring that calls to you and wear it!

4. Makeup

Makeup can say a lot about a woman. Consider how you want to be perceived and create a makeup look that resonates with you and makes you feel good.

What kind of face look suits you the best? No makeup? Shimmery eyeshadow and blush? Light foundation with lip gloss? Try new things and figure out a makeup look you feel confident in and can incorporate into your daily look.

5. Clothes

Clothes, arguably one of (if not the) most important aspects of your look. Clothing, along with makeup, is a type of glamour. Not just the glamour we see in old Hollywood, but the glamour that enchants. Aesthetics greatly affect our mood and feelings, because we are visual creatures. This is why you feel good when you have a cute outfit on that feels authentic to you.

Wearing certain clothes evokes feelings and moods. You want to find clothes that make you feel beautiful and powerful. If wearing sweats and a tank top doesn’t make you feel ready to take on the world, find something that does! It’s always okay to put effort into your appearance and dress up.

When finding clothing that suits you best, consider again your undertones and also your body type.

For more undertone help, I reccommend this video from Aly Art where she goes over skin undertones and how to identify your own!

It’s amazing to feel like you are nailing your look and identity and going about the world feeling and being as authentic as possible. Having a signature look is all about feeling like yourself, which everyone deserves.

I hope you ladies enjoyed this simple article; I find myself more inspired when I’m not adding filler words and unnecessary details, but rather when the simple lists and guides I create work so that you can take what you want from them and find your own inspiration.
