What is the Difference Between Light and Dark Feminine Energy?

by | Feb 4, 2023

Femininity, in all its beautiful expressions, can almost always be represented by lightness or darkness. Most women have a side that comes more naturally to them. When a woman is comfortable in both her light and dark feminine energy, she has divine feminine energy. In this article, we’re going to take a deep dive into the dual energy of the feminine, and how you can embody them both naturally and authentically.

Light Feminine

key words: compassion, peace, uplift, heart centered, integrity, communication, nurturing, healing, vulnerability, submission

light feminine energy

“Keep smiling, because life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about” -Marilyn Monroe

The light feminine is all about bringing light.  Bringing light, life and healing to the world around her. Light feminine energy represents the archetype of the princess, maiden, healer, homemaker, mother and companion. Light feminine energy is the clear sunny day to the dark feminine’s chaotic storm. It’s a warm aura that can be felt immediately, and she can elevate the energy of a room simply with her warm and loving presence. A woman with LF energy has a glow, happiness and radiance to her. A woman in this energy loves to feel happy. She loves to help, heal and share her beautiful energy with those around her. She lives her life with high integrity and a strong moral compass. LF energy brings peace, compassion and love to others. She uplifts and nurtures the people in her life, not because she feels that she has to, but because it is natural to her. She is the ultimate companion, optimist and cheerleader. Disney princesses like Cinderella are great examples of light feminine energy. Things like caretaking, encouraging, nurturing, engaging with others and being receptive. In relationships: The energy is honest, communicative and vulnerable. If LF wants something, she will verbally communicate what she needs, without insinuations or game playing. She’s straightforward. She is more submissive to the masculine than the dark feminine is. LF loves to heal and bring clarity to her partner. She has more of a partnership mindset and might be thought of as someone who would make (or is) a great wife and mother. Ultimately, the light feminine is all about love, community, happiness and healing.   How to embody more light feminine: If you are more comfortable in the dark feminine, here are some ways you can integrate more light:

  • spend more time around children, animals and people in general
  • choose to feel and radiate love and kindness
  • be open to connection
  • see the beauty in life
  • give more compliments and allow yourself to receive them
  • help someone with something without being asked
  • adorn yourself as light feminine: light colors, feminine styles, natural/glowy makeup

The downside of a woman who has light feminine energy without dark feminine energy:   Without the dark feminine, the LF can be a people pleaser with a lack of boundaries. She may give her energy or healing to those who don’t deserve it or allow herself to be walked on. She might avoid saying no and fear confrontation. A lack of energetic protection is very common for women without dark feminine energy.   Light feminine energy may not benefit you when:

  • you’re walking down a street late at night. radiating love and openness makes you seem like an easy target
  • you put others’ needs and feelings before your own
  • someone disrespects you and you don’t stand up for yourself
  • you say yes when it isn’t beneficial for you

Dark Feminine

key words: mysterious, suggestive, wild, non-verbal, boundaries, pleasure, selfish, seductive, sexual, creative, powerful

“I’ve been reckless, but I’m not a rebel without a cause” -Angelina Jolie

The dark feminine is more self centered, chaotic and seductive. Where the light feminine receives, the dark feminine influences. Where the LF embraces and feels safe in sisterhood and community, the DF loves being alone with herself. This can be shown in the contrast between the maiden archetype, who rejoices in community, and the witch, who finds power in being alone. The archetypes of the dark feminine are the witch, huntress and succubus. Dark feminine energy means getting what you want, saying no and embracing sensuality without inhibition. And while the dark feminine is more aggressive, she is not more straightforward. DF communicates intentions through her eyes, body and energy. Despite being less direct than the LF, DF is where we enforce our boundaries. Women in this energy have no problem establishing what they do and don’t like, whether they say it out loud or communicate it with their energy. In relationships: If the man she’s with gives her an order, the light feminine will submit. The dark feminine will say “make me”. Persuasion, chaos and sexuality are the dark feminine’s strength. Dominance, aggression and control are the dark masculine’s strength. They encourage each other most often during sex.   How to embody more dark feminine: If you are more comfortable in the light feminine, here are some ways to integrate more dark:

  • get used to saying “no”. there are a lot of ways to say no. for example: if a guy you aren’t interested in asks you for your number and you either make up a lie to get out of it or give him your number in submission, this is a sign of a weak dark feminine. get used to saying things like “I’m flattered, but not interested.” don’t be afraid to say no.
  • get familiar with your sexuality and don’t shame yourself when it comes to pleasure
  • be spontaneous and rebellious sometimes
  • spend time alone with yourself in ways that feel good
  • adorn yourself as dark feminine: dark colors, edgy styles, darker makeup

The downside of a woman who has dark feminine energy without light feminine energy: Without the light feminine, the dark feminine can be antisocial, promiscuous and selfish. She may use energy work (magic), sex and seduction as a means to an end and manipulate others. Dark feminine energy may not benefit you (or others) when:

  • you’re out to lunch with your boyfriend’s parents (you get what I mean)
  • you have ill intent. DF energy should never be used to take advantage of someone else, and should only be used out of self love and/or mutual benefit.
  • you are around children, animals, or those who you’re providing help to
